The ticket for your bicycle
Fares for bicycle tickets are fix, it doesn't matter how far you travel. Before you get the train, you must stamp both sides of the ticket at one of yellow machines; then you must separate the two parts of the ticket and apply the lower part to the bicycle (make a ring of the ticket closing it on the self-adesive section); keep with you the other part.
Are allowed to train transport bicycles shorter than 2 m (no tandems) and no trailers.
The ticket is valid 24 hours since the time you stamp it. It costs 3,50 euro for regional (regionale), direct (diretto) and interregional trains; 5,00 euro for expresses (espressi) and intercity; 12,30 euro if you are going abroad (just a few trains available to go abroad by train).
Trains with bike transport
Trains with bike transport are generally in local service. The most distant place from Florence you can travel to, without having to change train, is Rome. In the official F.S. timetable trains with bike transport are easy to recognice, since they have a bicycle simbol near the train number. On the train the place to load bicycle is signed 
with a white bicycle on blue background on the external of the train. Each train has place for 5 up to 15 bicycles.
Generally speaking, you are expected to unload lauggage from you bicycle; but, if there is enough room in the train, it doesn't matter if you leave it on the bicycle. You have to load/unload yourself the bicycle on the train, but, in most cases, you will have to ask the chief-train (capotreno) or a conductor to open the bicycle compartment. If you need help, remeber that train crew is not owed to help you to load the bicycle on the train. So, be very polite when you ask them.
Trains with no bike transport
On these trains it is possible to transport the bicycles only inside appropriate bags; bags must have the maximum dimension of cm 80x110x40. In some cases the head-train can authorize the transport of bicycles mounted also on these. It happens only train is nearly empty and the capotreno likes cyclists and, among all, you ask kindly. In refusal case it is useless to insist.

We removed the timetables from these Pages. The Trenitalia company has now on the Internet a powerful search engine for train timetables, available alse in English language. You have to go to and fill the form. You will see s bicycle symbol near trains with bicycle transport.
